Niglihawa

Marked by an inscribed Asoka Pillar erected in 249 BCE, Niglihawa is revered as the birthplace of Kanakamuni Buddha, an enlightened predecessor of Sakyamuni Buddha. Its ancient Brahmi inscriptions record Emperor Asoka’s pilgrimage, while a later inscription recalls King Ripu Malla’s visit in the 14th century. Together, these enduring traces make Niglihawa a remarkable testament to Buddhist lineage, royal devotion, and centuries of sacred pilgrimage.
