Introduction to the Ashram:
There is a religious pilgrimage site in the northeastern region of Pokhara – Harihar Cave Sanyas Ashram. There are caves, Mahadev Temple, Panchmukhi Hanuman, Ganesh Temple, old age home and ashram on a 1300-meter-high hill.
Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 20 is home to Lord Harihar. Known as “Bhu-Swarga” among geography connoisseurs, the main deity of this ashram is “Shri Harihar”, who is considered a symbol of religious and communal unity. Therefore, Shri Harihar has been worshipped by Shaivites and Vaishnavas as a common pilgrimage site for centuries.
The location of this site is at 28°15’8″ North latitude and 83°5959″ East longitude. The height of this ashram is its identity and dignity. From here, one can observe the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges, as well as most parts of the beautiful tourist city of Pokhara, while the elements and aspects that hinder spiritual practice do not reach and influence this far.
Historical Background:
Located in Ward No. 20 (formerly Ward No. 1 of Bhalam VDC) of Pokhara, Metropolitan City, Kaski District, also known as “Bhu-Swarga”, nestled in the lap of the picturesque and captivating Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges and as the crown of the beautiful tourist city of Pokhara, this historical Shri Harihar Cave Sanyas Ashram is the most important holy place among all religious and tourist sites, unseen by the eyes of government bodies and officials. Its founder is Shri 108 Swami Ambar Giriji Maharaj, a blessed disciple of the famous Swami Shri 1008 Digambar Baba of the famous Panchajuna Akhara (India).
The most suitable place was identified and the symbol of religious and communal unity, “Shri Harihar Bhagwan Ishtadev” was established in this temple, which is a symbol of religious and communal unity, according to Vedic rituals. Since the Panchamukhi Hanuman, Shri Ganesh, and Ambre Chaya are naturally of interest, the Gishwar Shivalaya has been established and the ashram has been operated according to the successor disciple tradition. After that, feeling that the legitimacy of the ashram itself was necessary, on the seventh day of Baisakh Shukla (Ganga) of the seventh month of the year 1906, a charter was obtained by Shri 3 Jang Bahadur Rana, specifying the worship of the Ishtadev Shri Harihar Bhagwan, celebrating the victory of His Majesty the 5th government, and the forest surrounding the temple, etc., which is still available.
After the founder, his disciples Sahadev Giri, Keshav Giri and Dev Giri came in (2019) and the successor tradition took a break. The work of adding oil to the lamp of the ashram, which was about to go out for 8 years, was started by the ascetic Shri Dharmadatta from 2037 Mahashivratri. It was done from Vanprasti. In order to make this temple permanent, the statute of the “Harihar Gufa Seva Samiti” registered in 2046 was amended to be compatible with the Sannyas Ashram system, and then the then president, late Co-Secretary Premjung Khatri, duly re-established the Sannyas Ashram system established by the founder Shri 108 Amber Giri. In order to restore it to the Sannyas Ashram system, Shri 1008 Swami Atmananda Giriji Maharaj, the Peethadheesh of Galeshwor Ashram Devghatdham, was appointed as the sixth Peethadheesh and Chairman of the Committee by the unanimous decision of the historic general meeting held on 13th Asoj 2058. In this way, this ashram has succeeded in maintaining the previous Uttar Adhikari Shishya tradition after 29 years. This work has ensured greater development and sustainable operation of the ashram.
After going through various ups and downs, by the year 2045, it was felt that there was no situation where it could be assured of its sustainable operation, and it was felt necessary to register a non-governmental organization named “Harihar Gufa Sewa Samiti” as per the prevailing law. The necessary statute was prepared as per the Organization Registration Act 2034 and the organization was registered on Bhadra 26, 2046 by an ad hoc committee formed under the chairmanship of Lok Bahadur Khatri. After that, as per the statute of the organization, the work was progressing, and after almost twelve years, by a coincidence, all the preparations including the amendment of the statute were completed and from the historic general meeting held on Asoj 13, 2058 BS, as provided in the statute of Shri Harihar Gufa Sanyas Ashram (amended statute), Anantashree Vibhushit Mahamandaleshwar Swami Atmananda Giriji Maharaj, the Peethadheesh of Shri Galeshwar Ashram, Devghatdham, has been appointed to the dignified position of Peethadheesh.

Celebrate the seventh day of the bright moon of Vaishakh as the anniversary of the ashram in a grand manner. On the same occasion, honor the person or 5 organizations that have made significant contributions to the development of the ashram.

Festivals like Shri Krishnashtami, Navadurga, Rishi Panchami, Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti are celebrated with rituals, recitations, and singing of bhajans.
Routes to reach the ashram
Cross the suspension bridge and go through the bar-lined street located in Bhalam, Ward No. 20, Sano Patan, connected to the eastern part of Thullo Patan. Cross the street and go through the stairs numbered 1008 to reach the ashram.
Motorway: Bhalam, Ward No. 11, Phulwari, Manipal Hospital, Rajjanpath, after covering a distance of about 6 kilometers, from Deurali, Ward No. 20, Bhalam, after a 25-minute uphill journey, the ashram can be reached.
Bhalam, Ward No. 16, Badar Bot and the bridge connecting Bhalam can be reached from the ashram.
Important fairs and festivals held in the ashram:-
This ashram has got the opportunity to become more holy through the unique touch of the feet of well-known and blessed saints who have emerged in the foundation of Hinduism. Unfortunately, some individuals, organizations
and government offices related to religious tourism in this city, district and state are unaware of this temple. The efforts made to resolve this unexpected situation have definitely met with partial success, and the committee hopes that the goal will be achieved in the coming days with the good efforts of all concerned.
However, this ashram is included under the category of “Nearby Pilgrimage”. Judging by the following important festivals and public participation held here, it is certain that this region or state can become an important religious and tourist destination. Among the mentioned festivals, the “Satavijaro Pan Mela” held on the occasion of “Bala Chaturdashi” is celebrated with wide public participation, with various cultural programs including bhajans, dances and sermons. आश्रमको परिचय:
पोखराको पूर्वोत्तर भू–भागमा एउटा धार्मिक तीर्थस्थल छ–हरिहर गुफा सन्यास आश्रम । १३ सय मिटर उचाईको डाँडामा गुफा, महादेव मन्दिर, पञ्चमुखि हुनमान, गणेश मन्दिर, वृद्धाश्रम र आश्रमलगायतका सम्पदा छन् ।
पोखरा महानगरपालिका वडा नं. २० मा पर्ने डाँडामा भगवान हरिहरको बास छ । भूगोलका पारखीहरु माझ “भू-स्वर्ग” उपनामले परिचित यस आश्रमका प्रधान इष्टदेवता ” श्री हरिहर ” रहनु भएको छ, जसलाई धार्मिक तथा साम्प्रदायिक एकताको प्रतिकको रुपमा लिने गरेको पाइन्छ। त्यसैले श्री हरिहरलाई शैव र वैष्णवहरूले साझा तीर्थका रुपमा सदियौंदेखि पूज्दै आएका छन् ।
यस स्थलको अवस्थिति २८°१५’८” उत्तर अक्षांश र ८३° ५९५९” पूर्व देशान्तरमा पर्दछ यस आश्रमको उचाई नै यसको पहिचान र गरिमा हो । यहीँबाट अन्नपूर्ण तथा माछापुच्छे हिमश्रृङ्खलाको साथै सुन्दर पर्यटकीय नगरी पोखराको धेरै भन्दा धेरै भागको अवलोकन गर्न सकिन्छ, भने साधनामा बाधा पुऱ्याउने तत्व र पक्षहरुको पहुँच र प्रभाव यहाँ सम्म पुग्न सकेको पाइँदैन ।
ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि :
कास्की जिल्ला स्थित पोखरा, महानगरपालिका वडा नं. २० (साविक भलाम गा.वि.स.को वडा नं १) मा पर्ने “भू-स्वर्ग” उपनाम समेतबाट परिचित मनोरम एवं चित्ताकर्षक अन्नपूर्ण तथा माछापुच्छे हिम श्रृङ्खलाको काखमा र सुन्दर पर्यटकिय नगरी पोखराको मुकुटको रुपमा अवस्थित सरकारी निकाय र पदाधिकारीहरुको आँखाले नभेटेको तर सबै खाले धार्मिक र पर्यटकीय स्थलहरु मध्ये सर्वोपरी महत्वपूर्ण पुण्यभूमि हो, यस ऐतिहासिक श्री हरिहर गुफा सन्यास आश्रम । यसका संस्थापक हुनुहुन्छ प्रशिद्ध पञ्चजुना अखडा (भारत) का विख्यात स्वामी श्री १००८ दिगम्बर बाबाका वरद शिष्य श्री १०८ स्वामी अम्बर गिरीजी महाराज हुनुहुन्छ ।
सर्वाधिक योग्यतम् स्थल ठम्याई वैदिक विधिपूर्वक धार्मिक तथा साम्प्रदायिक एकताको प्रतिक “श्री हरिहर भगवान इष्टदेव रहेको यस मन्दिरमा पञ्चमुखि हुनमान, श्री गणेश, अम्बरे चय स्वभाविक चासोको विषय भएकोले गिश्वर शिवालयको स्थापना गरी, उत्तराधिकारी शिष्य परम्परा बमोंजिम आश्रम संचालन भएको छ । तत्पश्चात आश्रमको वैधानिकता आफैमा जरुरी हुने महशुस गरी वि.स. १९०६ बैशाख शुक्ल (गंगा) सप्तमीमा श्री ३ जंगबहादुर राणाबाट स्थापित इष्टदेव श्री हरिहर भगवानको पुजा आराधना गर्नु, श्री ५ सरकारको जय मनाउनु, मन्दिर वरिपरिको वन गुल्जार गर्नु आदी अदलहरु तोकिएको सनदपत्र प्राप्त भएको थियो, जन अद्यापि उपलब्ध छ ।
संस्थापकपश्चात उहाँका शिष्य सहदेव गिरी, केशव गिरी र देव गिरी (२०१९) मा आएर उत्तराधिकारी परम्परमा विश्राम लाग्यो । ८ वर्षको रिक्तता निभ्न लागेको आश्रमरुपी बत्तीमा तेल थप्ने काम २०३७ महाशिवरात्री देखि तपश्वी श्री धर्मदत्त वानप्रस्तीबाट भयो । यस मन्दिरलाई चिरस्थायी बनाउन २०४६ मा दर्ता भएको “हरिहर गुफा सेवा समिति” को विधानमा संन्यास आश्रम पद्धती अनुकुल हुने गरी संशोधन पश्चात तत्कालिन अध्यक्ष स्व. सह-से. प्रेमजङ्ग खत्रीद्धारा विधिवतरुपमा संस्थापक श्री १०८ अम्बर गिरीबाट स्थापित संन्यास आश्रम पद्धतीमा पुनस्थापन हे तु मिति २०५८ असोज १३ गते मा सम्पन्न ऐतिहासिक साधारण सभाको सर्वसंमत निर्णयबाट गलेश्वर आश्रम देवघाटधामका पीठाधीश श्री १००८ स्वामी आत्मनन्द गिरिजी महाराजलाई यस आश्रमको छैटौ पीठाधीश एवं समितिको अध्यक्षमा पदाशिन गराएको थियो । यस प्रकार यस आश्रमले २९ वर्ष पछि पूर्ववत उत्तर अधिकारी शिष्य परम्परा कायम गर्न सफल भएको छ । यस कार्यबाट आश्रमको वृहत्तर विकास र दिगो सञ्चालन सुनिश्चित भएको छ।
विभिन्न आरोह र अवरोह पार गर्दै वि.स. २०४५ सम्म आइपुग्दा यसको दिगो सञ्चालनमा आश्वस्त हुन सक्ने स्थिति नभएको महशुस गरी, प्रचलित कानुन बमोजिम “हरिहर गुफा सेवा समिति” नामक गैरसरकारी संस्था दर्ता गर्नु आवश्यकता महशुस भई संस्था दर्ता ऐ न २०३४ अनुसार आवश्यक विधान तयार गरी लोकबहादुर खत्रीको अध्यक्षतामा गठित तदर्थ समितिबाट वि.स. २०४६ भदौ २६ गते संस्था दर्ता गरियो । तत्पश्चात् संस्थाको विधान अनुसार कामहरु अगाडि बढ्दै गर्दा झण्डै बाह्र वर्ष पछि दैव संयोग बस् विधान संशोधन समेतका सम्पूर्ण तयारी पूरा गरी वि.स. २०५८ असोज १३ गते सम्पन्न ऐतिहासिक साधारण सभाबाट श्री हरिहर गुफा सन्यास आश्रम (संशोधित विधान) को विधानमा व्यवस्था भए बमोजिम श्री गलेश्वर आश्रम, देवघाटधामका पीठाधीश अनन्तश्री विभुषित महामण्डलेश्वर स्वामी आत्मानन्द गिरिजी महाराज पीठाधीशको गरिमामय पदमा आसिन रहिआउनु भएको छ।

- सनदपत्र प्राप्त गरेको मिति/तिथि वैशाख शुक्ल सप्तमीलाई आश्रमको वार्षिकोत्सवको रुपमा भव्य रुपमा मनाउने । सोही अवसर मा आश्रमको विकासमा उल्लेखनीय योगदान पुऱ्याउने व्यक्ति वा ५ संस्थालाई सम्मान गर्ने ।
नैमित्तिक कार्यहरु :
- बालाचतुर्दशीमा भव्य सत्विजारोपण मेला ।
- महाशिवरात्री मेला, सामूहिक व्रतवन्ध, रुद्राभिषेक आदि ।
- प्रवचनादि, ज्ञानमहायज्ञ तथा पाठपारायण ।
- श्री कृष्णाष्टमी, नवदुर्गा, ऋषिपञ्चमी, रामनवमी, हनुमान जयन्ती जस्ता पर्वहरु विधिपूर्वक अनुष्ठान, पाठपारायण, भजनकिर्तनादीसहित विशेष रुपमा मनाइन्छ ।
आश्रम आउने मार्गहरु
- झोलुइपुल पार गरी पो.म.न.पा. वडा नं. २० भलाम मा अवस्थित बार युक्त गल्ली, सानो पाटन ठूलो पाटनको पूर्वी भागसँग जोडिएको ठूलो । गल्ली पार गरी १००८ संख्याको सिडी हुँदै आश्रम पुग्न सकिन्छ ।
- मोटर बाटो : पो.म.न.पा. वडा . ११ फुलवारी, मणिपाल हस्पिटल हुँदै रज्जनपथ भएर करिब ६ किलोमिटर दूरी तय गरेपछि पो.म.न.पा. भलाम वडा नं. २० मा पर्ने देउरालीबाट २५ मिनेटको उकालो यात्रा पछि आश्रम पुग्न सकीन्छ ।
- पो.म.न.पा. वडा नं. १६ बडर बोट र भलाम जोडिएको पुलबाट आश्रम आवागमन गर्न सकिन्छ ।
आश्रममा सम्पादनहुने महत्वपूर्ण मेला तथा पर्वहरु:-
यस आश्रम, हिन्दुत्वको जगमा पल्पिएका सुपरिचित एवं मूर्धन्य साधुसन्तहरुको अपूर्व चरणस्पर्शबाट थप पावन बन्ने अवसर प्राप्त गरे को छ । अफसोच यसै नगर, जिल्ला र प्रदेशका कतिपय व्यक्ति, संस्था
तथा धार्मिक पर्यटनसँग सम्बन्धित सरकारी कार्यालयहरु यस मन्दिरको बारेमा बेखबर रहेको अवस्था विद्यमान छ । यस अनपेक्षित अवस्थालाई निराकरण गर्न भएका प्रयासहरुबाट आंशिक सफलता जरुर मिलेको छ आँउदा दिनहरुमा सम्बन्धित सबैको सत्प्रयासबाट लक्ष्य हासिल हुनेछ, भन्ने आशा समितिको रहेको छ ।
यद्यपि यस आश्रम, ‘नजिकको तीर्थ हेला” अन्तर्गत परेको छ । यहाँ सम्पादन गरिने निम्नानुसारका महत्वपूर्ण पर्वहरु र जनसहभागितालाई हीखाजोखा गर्दा, यस क्षेत्र वा प्रदेशकै महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक तथा पर्यटकीय गन्तव्य बन्न सक्ने निश्चित छ । यहाँ संचालन हुने महत्वपूर्ण मेला तथा पर्वहरु निम्नानुसार छन् ।

उल्लिखित पर्वहरु मध्ये “बालाचतुर्दशीको” अवसरमा लाग्ने “ सतविजारो पण मेला” व्यापक जनसहभागिता सहित, विविध सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमहरु भजनकिर्तन, नाचगान र प्रवचन समेतका कार्यक्रमहरु बीच मनाइने गरिन्छ । यस मेलामा स्वदेश तथा विदेश समेतबाट भक्तजनहरुको उल्लेख्य सहभागिता हुने गर्दछ, जुन वर्षेनी बढ्दो क्रममा रहेको छ ।
