Historical Background of the Temple:
While researching the history of this Shitla Devi Temple, there is a history of the land of this institution being owned by the name of a person who was killed in 1800 BS. Later, when he was working in the army as part of his job and at the same time his soldiers were sick and unable to fight the enemy, the same person appeared to him in a dream at night and said, “I am Shitla Devi, I have made your soldiers sick. Serve me, and your wishes will be fulfilled.” Since I am sitting around your land, the soldiers returned home after recovering from their service to the goddess. There is a history of the same person serving the goddess and defeating the enemy. There is also a history of the rock on which the same land was built as a monastery and worshipping it as per the advice of astrologers and tantrics. After that, the person migrated to Palpa and then the Karki family built the monastery as a temple on the day of Baisakh Purnima in 1889. The history of Mahavir Karki continuing the worship sequence is found in the inscriptions there.
After that, during the worship management, devotees came from far and wide to worship by taking vows for diseases related to measles, smallpox, chickenpox, watery diarrhea and tuberculosis as well as all other diseases related to childhood diseases, and by the grace of Bhagwati, no devotee has had to be turned away till date.
Type of heritage:
According to the design of the Archaeological Department, there is a temple made of artistic clay, bricks, and cement.
Worship management in the temple
It is seen from the map of the Land Revenue Office Kaski that a land trust has been set aside for the expenses of worship management. However, in 2023 BS, it was stipulated that 9 muri 10 pathi of rice should be given to the priest from all the guthi-holders from the rice threshing floor, but it has not been possible to provide it for the past 20-22 years because the guthi became land and was divided during the transfer of shares and tenants. Although there is no source and means to provide the materials required for daily worship and the sustenance of the priest, worship in the temple is still going on till today due to divine faith and belief. Currently, money equivalent to 3 muri 7 pathi of paddy has been received from the late Ganesh Bahadur Karki’s son Shri Minkaji Karki, Binod Karki, Shiva Prakash Karki and Bishnu Karki from the Guthi land of the Karki family for the expenses of the priest.
Other details regarding the structure:
Although the Karki family has provided assistance once or twice for the renovation, the temple has not been completely renovated, so water has entered the temple and it is in a state of serious collapse. Therefore, in order to renovate the temple in 2059 BS, under the chairmanship of the former Venerable Nanda Jung Gurung, the temple was renovated again with the advice and suggestions of Dr. Anil Subedi, Minkaji Karki, Balram Chapagain, Tika Bahadur Karki and other religious figures. After that, the committee built a four-fortress, compound wall, fence, pigeon house and currently a water tank to supply water to the temple 24 hours a day, as per the records there.
From now on, for the management and protection of this temple, the formation of the Shri Shitla Devi Temple Service Committee has been formulated in accordance with the Organization Registration Act 2034 with the sacred objective of preserving and promoting the natural beauty and historical beauty of the area around the Shri Shitla Devi Temple, developing the Shri Shitla Devi Temple area to promote Nepal from East Mechi to West Mahakali. Since it is desirable to manage and operate everything, the statute has been formulated in accordance with the Organization Registration Act 2034.
Despite various ups and downs in this organization, in 2068 BS, an ad hoc committee was formed under the chairmanship of the late Mr. Indra Bahadur Gurung and duly registered with the District Administration Office. It is requested that the daily work of the temple is being done by the Temple Service Committee. I would like to inform you that as of the third regular session, the total number of life members of the temple is 113, including 88 males and 25 females.

मन्दिरको ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमिः
यस शितलादेवी मन्दिरको इतिहास खोजी गर्दा वि.सं. १८०० सालमा निशानथर भएको व्यक्तिको नामबाट यस संस्थाको जग्गा भोग चलन भएको इतिहास छ। पछि, उनी नोकरीको शिलशिलामा सेनामा कार्यरत रहेको र त्यहि समयमा आफ्ना सिपाहीहरु बिरामी भएको शत्रुसंग लड्न असमर्थ भएको अवस्थामा तिनै व्यक्तिलाई राती सपनामा चेष्टा दिई म शितलादेवी हुँ तिम्रा सिपाहीहरु मैले बिरामी बनाएको हो। मेरो सेवा गर तिम्रो मनकामना पुरा हुन्छ । म तिम्रो जग्गा वरीपरी बसेकी छु भनेको हुँदा तिनै व्यक्तिले देवीको सेवा गरेको हुनाले सिपाहीहरु निको भई शत्रुलाई पराजय गरी फर्केको इतिहास छ भने सोही जग्गा भएको शिलालाई मठ बनाई ज्योतिष एवं तान्त्रिकको सल्लाहअनुसार पूजा आजा गर्दै आईरहको इतिहास पाइन्छ । त्यसपछि ति व्यक्ति पाल्पातिर बसाई सरेको र त्यसपश्चात कार्की परिवारबाट सो मठलाई १८८९ वैशाख पूर्णिमाको दिन मन्दिर बनाई स्व. महाविर कार्कीद्वारा पूजा पाठको क्रमलाई निरन्तरता दिएको इतिहास त्यहाँ अवस्थित शिलालेखबाट पाइन्छ ।
त्यसपछि पूजा व्यवस्थापन गर्ने क्रममा भाकल पूजा, दादुरा, विफर, ठेउला, पानीसरा र क्षयरोग साथै बालरोगसंग सम्बन्धित सम्पूर्ण रोगको साथै अन्य मनोकामनाका भाकल पूजा लिई भक्तजनहरु टाढा टाढाबाट पूजा गर्न आउने गरेकोमा भगवतीको कृपाले आजसम्म कुनै पनि भक्तजनलाई विमुख हुन परेको छैन ।
सम्पदाको किसिमः
पुरातात्विक विभागको डिजाईन अनुसार कलात्मक किमिसको माटो, इट्टा, सिमेन्ट प्रयोग भएको मन्दिर रहेको छ ।
मन्दिरमा पूजा व्यवस्थापन
पूजा व्यवस्थापन खर्चको लागि भनी जग्गा गुठी राखेको मालपोत कार्यालय कास्कीको नक्साबाट देखिन्छ । तर २०२३ सालमा पूजारीको लागि भनी ९ मुरी १० पाथी धान सबै गुठीवाला भाइबाट धान खलाबाटै दिने शर्त भएकोमा विगत २०-२२ वर्षदेखि सो उपलब्ध गराउन नसकेको छ कारण सो गुठी जग्गा भई अंश र मोही सार्ने क्रममा बाँडिदै जाँदा उक्त धान खेत मासियो । दैनिक पूजाआजाका लागि चाहिने सामाग्री र पूजारीको लागि भरणपोषणको लागि आजसम्म कुनै स्रोत र साधन नभएता पनि ईश्वरीय आस्था र विश्वासका कारण आजसम्म मन्दिरमा पूजा आजा चल्दै आईरहेको छ। हाल पुजाहारी खर्चको लागि कार्की परिवारको गुठी जग्गा मध्येबाट स्व. गणेश बहादुर कार्कीको छोरा श्री मिनकाजी कार्की, विनोद कार्की, शिव प्रकाश कार्की र विष्णु कार्कीबाट ३ मुरी ७ पाथी धान बराबरको पैसा प्राप्त भएको छ ।
संरचना सम्बन्धि अन्य विवरण:
जिर्णोद्वार सम्बन्धमा कार्की परिवारबाट नै एक दुई पटक सहयोग भएको तर पनि पूर्ण रुपले जिर्णोद्वार हुन नसकेकोले मन्दिर भित्र पानी पस्ने, गाह्रो भत्कने अवस्था छ । त्यसैले मन्दिर जिर्णोद्वार गर्नको लागि २०५९ सालमा भू.पू. माननीय नन्दजंग गुरुङको अध्यक्षतामा डा. अनिल सुवेदी, मिनकाजी कार्की, बलराम चापागाई, टिका बहादुर कार्की र अन्य धार्मिक व्यक्तित्वहरुको सल्लाह र सुझावमा मन्दिर पुनः जिर्णोद्वार गरेको पाईन्छ । त्यसपछि उक्त समितिले चारकिल्ला, कम्पाउण्ड वाल, तारबार, परेवा बस्ने गुड र हाल मन्दिरलाई २४ सै घण्टा पानी आउने गरी पानी टंकीको निर्माण शितलादेवी आमा समूहबाट भएको कुरा त्यहाँको अभिलेखबाट पाईन्छ ।
अब उप्रान्त यस मन्दिरको व्यवस्थापन र संरक्षणको निम्ति श्री शितलादेवी मन्दिर वरपरको क्षेत्रको प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य ऐतिहासिक संरक्षण र सम्बर्द्धन गर्ने, धर्म संस्कृति परम्पराको जगेर्ना गर्ने हेतुले श्री शितलादेवी मन्दिर क्षेत्रलाई विकास गर्ने नेपालको पूर्व मेचिदेखि पश्चिम महाकालीसम्म चिनाउने पवित्र उद्देश्यले श्री शितलादेवी मन्दिर सेवा समितिको गठन सञ्चालन सबै व्यवस्थापन गर्न बाञ्छनीय भएकोले संस्था दर्ता ऐन २०३४ बमोजिम विधान तर्जुमा गरिएको छ ।
यस संस्थामा विभिन्न उतारचढावको बाबजुत मिति २०६८ सालमा स्वर्गीय सु. इन्द्र बहादुर गुरुङ्गको अध्यक्षतामा तदर्थ समिति गठन भई विधिवत रुपमा जिल्ला प्रशासन कार्यालयमा दर्ता भई मन्दिर सेवा समितिबाट मन्दिरको दैनिक काम काज गर्दै आईरहेको व्यहोरा अनुरोध छ । विधिवत रुपमा तेस्रो अधिवेशन सम्म आईपुग्दा मन्दिरको जम्मा आजिवन सदस्यहरु पुरुष ८८ र महिला २५ गरी जम्मा ११३ रहेको जानकारी गर्दछु ।
