Introduction:
Rupa Lake is the third largest lake in the Pokhara Valley. It is spread over an area of 135 hectares and its maximum depth is 6 meters. Rupa Lake is 600 meters above sea level and its average annual water temperature is 20.9 degrees Celsius. The sources of this lake are Dobhan Khola and Talbensi Khola from the east. This water flows into the Seti River through the Sistenighat River. 24 species of fish are found in Rupa Lake and the surrounding wetlands, including the valuable city (Tor spp.), 30 species of birds and 11 species of mammals. Paddy fields, home gardens and mainly Sal, Chilaune and Kattus forests cover 30 square kilometers of the lake’s watershed. Various types of aquatic plants such as lotus, water chestnut, gorgon nut, water lily, water hyacinth, azolla, lemna, etc. are found in this area. It is also an important area for the local population of wild rice. Easily accessible from the Prithvi Highway, the Rupa Tal watershed offers great opportunities for bird watching, hiking, agritourism and conservation education.

Income generation:
The Rupa Tal Restoration and Fisheries Cooperative has been in the fish farming business for over a decade. It is currently investing in a breeding pond to increase the number of native fish such as the sahar and to produce its own fry for other fish species.
Eco-tourism
In collaboration with Li-Bird, IUCN and World Vision, Rupa Lake Restoration and Fisheries Cooperative has established the Rupatal Wetland Information and Resource Centre. The centre helps tourists arrange enjoyable excursions around the lake.
Conservation:
The cooperative has been working for the conservation and sustainable development of the Rupatal watershed. By supporting goat farming, the cooperative helps improve the income of resource-poor farmers. At the same time, it creates demand for birds, which encourages tree plantations in the watershed and contributes to soil conservation. The wetland biodiversity of the area is recorded in the Community Biodiversity Register and the areas around the lake are protected as habitats for white lotus, water chestnut, migratory birds, indigenous fish and wild rice. The cooperative has been providing grants to 17 community forest user groups and 19 schools in the watershed under the Payment for Environmental Services project. The Rupa Lake Wetlands Information and Resource Center is also located near Rupa Lake. This center helps tourists arrange fun excursions around the lake.

परिचय:
पोखरा उपत्यकाको तेस्रो ठूलो ताल हो – रुपा ताल। यो १३५ हेक्टर छेत्रफलमा फैलिएको छ भने यसको अधिकतम गहिराइ ६ मिटर छ। रुपा ताल समुद्र सतहबाट ६०० मिटर माथि छ र यसको पानीको औसत वार्षिक तापक्रम २०.९ डिग्री सेल्सियस छ। यस तालको स्रोतहरु पूर्वबाट दोभान खोला र तालबेँसी खोला हुन् । यो पानी सिस्टेनीघाट नदी हुँदै सेती नदीमा बग्छ। रुपा ताल र आसपासका सिमसार क्षेत्रमा २४ प्रजातिका माछा पाइन्छन्, जसमा बहुमूल्य सहर (टोर एसपीपी), ३० प्रजातिका चराचुरुङ्गी र ११ प्रजातिका स्तनधारी जनावर छन् । धानखेत, घरबगैंचा र मुख्यतया साल, चिलाउने र कट्टुसको जंगलले तालको जलाधार क्षेत्रको ३० वर्ग किलोमिटर ओगटेको छ। विभिन्न प्रकारका जलीय वनस्पतिहरू जस्तै कमल, वाटर चेस्टनट, गोर्गोन नट, वाटर लिली, वाटर हाइसिन्थ, अजोला, लेम्ना, आदि यस क्षेत्रमा पाइन्छन् । यो जंगली धानको स्थानीय जनसंख्याको लागि पनि एक महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र हो। पृथ्वी राजमार्गबाट सहजै पुग्न सकिने रुपा ताल जलाधार क्षेत्रले चरा अवलोकन, हाइकिङ, कृषि पर्यटन र संरक्षण शिक्षाका लागि ठूलो अवसर प्रदान गर्दछ ।

रुपाताल जीर्णोद्धार तथा माछा पालन सहकारीले एक दशकभन्दा बढी समयदेखि माछापालन व्यवसाय गर्दै आएको छ। सहर जस्ता रैथाने माछाको सङ्ख्या बढाउन र अन्य जातका माछाका लागि आफ्नै भुरा माछा उत्पादन गर्न हाल प्रजनन पोखरीमा लगानी गरिरहेको छ ।
इको-टूरिज्म
लि–बर्ड, आइयुसिएन र वल्र्ड भिजनसँगको सहकार्यमा रुपा ताल जीर्णोद्धार तथा माछा पालन सहकारी संस्थाले रुपाताल सिमसार सूचना तथा स्रोत केन्द्र स्थापना गरेको हो । केन्द्रले पर्यटकहरूलाई तालको वरिपरि रमाइलो भ्रमणको व्यवस्था गर्न मद्दत गर्दछ।
संरक्षण:
सहकारीले रुपाताल जलाधार क्षेत्रको संरक्षण र दिगो विकासका लागि काम गर्दै आएको छ । बाख्रापालनमा सहयोग पुर्याएर सहकारीले स्रोत साधनविहीन किसानको आयआर्जनमा सुधार ल्याउन सहयोग पुर्याउँछ । एकै समयमा, यसले चराको माग सिर्जना गर्दछ, जसले जलाधार क्षेत्रमा वृक्षारोपणलाई प्रोत्साहित गर्दछ र भू-संरक्षणमा योगदान पुर्याउँछ। यस क्षेत्रको सिमसार जैविक विविधता सामुदायिक जैविक विविधता रजिस्टरमा अभिलेख गरिएको छ र ताल वरपरका क्षेत्रहरूलाई सेतो कमल, पानीको चेस्टनट, प्रवासी चराहरू, स्वदेशी माछा र जंगली धानको बासस्थान क्षेत्रको रूपमा संरक्षण गरिएको छ। सहकारीले वातावरणीय सेवाका लागि भुक्तानी परियोजनाअन्तर्गत १७ सामुदायिक वन उपभोक्ता समूह र जलाधार क्षेत्रका १९ विद्यालयलाई अनुदान उपलब्ध गराउँदै आएको छ। रुपा ताल नजिकै रुपा ताल सिमसार सूचना तथा स्रोत केन्द्र पनि छ । यस केन्द्रले पर्यटकहरूलाई तालको वरिपरि रमाइलो भ्रमणको व्यवस्था गर्न मद्दत गर्दछ।
