TACHI GHYUNG

This area is very significant for the locals due to its relation to Falo Festival. It is one of the final spots for hiding the rice wine(chyang) for Falo festival. Normally, 20-30 aged young males from all over the region come here with their horses. Singing songs about the local plants and vegetation, they gather here with Aya lama (local priest) and head to the top of this hill silently. They are not allowed to make any noise further ahead from this point.

Since this festival is organized during the Bhadra (Falo is thakali word for Bhadra month), the whole area is covered with fog. Main reason for being silent is also due to the local diety ‘Samdhambhu Chya’ who does not like loud noises. Also, they can easily get lost due to the fog and to avoid the situation, Aya Lama guides them by a single word ‘Chhang so’. No one else is allowed to speak. During this event, Lama orders the youths to collect every type of the local plants , vegetation and flowers and then tells a story about them. At the top point of this hill, you can also see the forest on a nearby hill where Musk Deers gather for pasture.
