Gauridham Shiva Mandir is located at the west of Baglung Municipality of Baglung District in Gandaki Province. Situated in Upllachaur, near ATM Chowk, about 250 meters ahead of 23 Army Camp Gate, lies the Gauridham Shiva Temple.
To the east of this temple lies the holy Kaligandaki River while to the west stands the majestic Baglung-Parbat Suspension Bridge, 185 meters high and 528 meters long, connecting Baglung and Parbat districts. To the west lies the Sarba Siddhi Dham Panchakot and the world’s only Shaligram Museum (cave). To the north are the Dhaulagiri Himal, Muktinath and Galeshwor Dham, while to the south sits the Baglung Kalika Devi Temple, Bhairavsthan Temple, amidst which lies the enchanting Gauridham Shiva Temple.
Origin and Establishment of Gauridham Shiva Temple
While a bulldozer was digging the road from Upallachaur Tilcharne to Odar Chaur, unexpected loud noises and machine parts breaking led to the discovery of various idols, including the Shivlinga, at the current temple location. Upon discovering such miraculous self-manifested idols, locals and devotees from neighboring districts proposed forming a Committee in order to preserve those idols. Over time, people from Baglung, Parbat, Myagdi, Gulmi and Dhami Jhakri etc. gathered at this place in order to pay homage to the idols that self-appeared. After which, locals and devotees with guidance from Lama, Dhami-Jhakri and Jyotis decided to build a temple at a place where these idols appeared. With financial contributions and donations from devotees all around, the construction of the temple began. Furthermore, local resident of Ba. Na. Pa. 4 Upallachaur donated 3 anas of land for the construction of the temple and when the construction of the temple completed, the temple was named Gauridham Shiva Temple.
Gauridham Shiva Temple
Gauridham Shiva Temple is spread over approximately 13 ropanis of land. Its main entrance is towards the south. Upon entering the temple premises, one can worship Lord Ganesh, then proceeding from the western side of the Agnikunda, the main temple, Gauridham Shiva can be worshipped. Inside the temple premises, 108 Shivalingas can be seen. After worshipping the Ganesh deity at first, one can proceed to worship at the Shiva Temple.
The eastern part of the temple houses the shrine of Goddess Parvati, the statue of Lord Ram and Sita, a large five-faced Shivalinga, a large bell, Tulsi Math, a large trident and the Basaha of copper. Likewise, inside the Ganesh Temple on the southern side of the temple, there is a statue of Lord Ganesh along with the agnikunda (a place where fire rituals of the temple is performed). On the northern side of the temple, there is a statue of Lord Radhakrishna, a statue of Lord Naga, 108 Shivalingas, Lord Garuda, Shaligram Shila, and a Yagya Kunda (sacrificial altar) can be seen. Additionally, various types of fruits and flowers have been planted to maintain a clean environment around the temple, and stone slabs have been placed in the temple premises. Inside the temple premise, Sattal, library, priest’s room, store room, toilet, bathroom, office of temple management committee etc., have been built.
Festivals:
Since the establishment of Gauridham Shiva Temple, every year on the 17th of Asar, Rudripath is performed by priests, followed by hymns, worship, and distribution of prasad among devotees, celebrating the annual festival (the day of establishment) of the temple.
Likewise, the month of Shravan is considered auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva. In the Hindu society, Shravan month is considered the best month for performing religious activities. It is the month that starts from Harishayani Ekadashi to Haribodhini Ekadashi, the first month of Chaturmas and the month of worshiping Shiva. So, the importance of the month of Shravan is highlighted mostly among the Hindu devotees. Even though it may not be possible to follow all the rules mentioned in the Puranas and religious scriptures, people generally observe the month of Shravan by consuming pure food throughout the month and worshiping Lord Shiva on Mondays, continuing the tradition of fasting. The worship at Gauridham Shiva Temple is performed after taking a bath with the holy water from Kaligandaki. People worship Lord Shiva at this temple by offering bel leaves, cow’s milk and flowers. Along with this, thousands of devotees from Baglung and nearby areas undertake a pilgrimage on foot from Kaligandaki to Gauridham Shiva Temple on a Monday of Shravan. Devotees also perform rituals such as taking a bath in the Kaligandaki River and offering (throwing) Satbeej on Balachaturdashi. Similarly, special worship is conducted on Mahashivaratri. As it is the nearest Shiva temple from Baglung Bazaar, on the day of Mahashivaratri, there is a much larger crowd of devotees here compared to other temples. On this day, people sit by the fire and religious songs i.e. Bhajan and Kirtans throughout the night. Female devotees perform puja by lighting Mahabatti and staying up all night singing religious hymns. People also come to this temple to seek blessings from Lord Mahadev on the occasion of marriage, bratabandha and several other religious and cultural celebrations.
Belief:
People visit this temple with a faith that their personal wishes and desires come true after praying at this temple. Furthermore, as people can easily reach the temple and its surroundings, so people of all ages, students, children, elderly citizens and several organizations come to visit this temple during several occasions.

पूर्वतर्फ पवित्र कालिगण्डकी नदीको छङछङ आवाज, १८५ मिटर अग्लो ५२८ मिटर लामो विश्वको दाश्रो लामो गौरी बागलुङ-पर्वत जोड्ने झोलुङ्गे पुल, पश्चिमतर्फ सर्वसिद्धी धाम पञ्चकोट तथा विश्वको एक मात्र शालिग्राम संग्राहालय (गुफा), उत्तरतर्फ धौलागिरि हिमाल, मुक्तिनाथ, गलेश्वर धाम साथै दक्षिण तर्फ बागलुङ कालिका देवि मन्दिर, भैवरस्थान मन्दिरको बिचमा अवस्थित यस गौरिधाम शिव मन्दिर निकै रमणिय वातावरणमा रहेको छ।
गौरीधाम शिव मन्दिरको उत्पति तथा स्थापना
साविक वडा नं ११, हाल बागलुङ नगरपालिका वडा नं. ४, उपल्लाचौर तिलछर्ने डिल हुँदै ओडारचौर जाने मोटरबाटो खन्ने क्रममा, तिलछर्ने ठाउँमा डोजरले बाटो खन्दा खन्दै डोजरमा एक्कासी ठुलो आवाज आउने तथा मेसिनका पार्टपुर्जाहरु टुटफुट हुने जस्ता क्रियाकलापहरु देखापरेपछि डोजर रोकियो। सोही खोलिएको बाटो संरक्षणका लागि २०५८ साल असार १७ गतेका दिन कुना तर्फबाट कच्ची नाली बनाउने क्रममा हाल मन्दिर रहेको स्थानमा साक्षत् शिव भगवानको शिवलिङ्ग लगायत सुरुङ्ग र विभिन्न आकारका मुर्तिहरु देखा परे। जब यस्ता प्रकारका मूर्तिहरू देखापरे, त्यसपछि स्थानियहरुले नाली खन्ने काम स्थगित गरि ती देखापरेका वस्तुहरुलाई जोगाई राख्नुपर्छ भनि सल्लाह गरेर मूर्तिहरुको संरक्षण गर्नका लागि व्यक्ति तोकियो। समयसंगै आफैँ देखापरेका अद्भूत मूर्तिहरू हेर्नका लागि स्थानिय व्यक्तिहरु लगायत अन्य जिल्लाका भक्तजनहरु आउने क्रम बढ्न थाल्यो। त्यतिमात्र नभएर, पर्वत, म्याग्दी, गुल्मी तथा कास्की जिल्लामा रहेका लामा, धामी झाँक्री, ज्योतिषहरु पनि यस स्थानमा अवलोकनका लागि आउने तथा बस्ने गर्न थाले। उनिहरुको सल्लाह बमोजिम त्यहाँ साक्षात् भगवान हुनुहुन्छ भनेपछि, स्थानिय भद्रभलाद्मीहरुको बैठक बसी मन्दिर निमार्ण समिति गठन गरीयो। श्रद्धालु दानविर भक्तजनहरुबाट अर्थिक संकलन साथै सो स्थानमा मन्दिर बनाउनका लागि जग्गा अपुग भएको हुँदा स्थानिय बा.न.पा. ४ उपल्लचौर निवासी श्री बाबुचन के.सी ज्यूबाट तीन आना बराबरको जग्गा उपलब्ध गराई, यो पवित्र मन्दिर निमार्णको कार्य शुरुवात भयो र मन्दिरलाई गौरिधाम शिव मन्दिर नामाकरण गरियो।
गौरीधाम शिव मन्दिर
गौरिधाम शिव मन्दिर करिब १३ रोपनी जग्गामा फैलिएको छ । यसको मुख्य प्रेशवद्धार दक्षिणतर्फ रहेको छ। सर्वप्रथमत: मन्दिर परिसरभित्र प्रवेश गरेपछि गणेश भगवानको दर्शन गरिन्छ, त्ससपछि अग्नीकुण्डको पश्चिम बाटो हुँदै मुख्य मन्दिर, गौरीधाम शिवजीलाई दर्शन गरीसकेपछि मन्दिर परिसरभित्र रहेको १०८ शिवलिङ्ग दर्शन गरिन्छ । क्रमश: पुजा मण्डपलाई दाहिने पार्दै रुद्राक्षको बोटलाई दाहिने घुमि, हनुमान, बसाह, तुलसीको मठ, पार्वती मन्दिरलाई दाहिना पार्दै, गणेश भगवानको पुजा गरि शिवमन्दिरमा पुजा अर्चना गरिन्छ ।
यो मन्दिरको पूर्वपट्टी श्री पार्वती मन्दिर एवं मन्दिर भित्र पार्वतीको मुर्ति, श्री राम सीताको मुर्ति, पञ्चमुखि ठुलो शिवलिङ्ग, ठुलो घण्ट, तुलसीको मठ, ठुलो त्रिशुल, तामाको बसाह आदि रहेका छन् । त्यस्तै, मन्दिरको दक्षिण तर्फ गणेशको मन्दिर र गणेश मन्दिरभित्र भगवान गणेशको मुर्ति साथै अग्नीकुण्ड रहेको छ। मन्दिरको उत्तरपट्टी भने श्री राधाकृष्णजीको मूर्ति, नाग भगवानको मूर्ति, १०८ शिवलिङ्ग, गरुड भगवान्, शालग्राम शिला, यज्ञ कुण्ड र होमन कुण्ड देख्न सकिन्छ। यसका साथै मन्दिर वरीपरीको वातावरणलाई स्वच्छ बनाउनका लागि विभिन्न प्रजातीका फलफुलहरु लगाईएको छ भने मन्दिर परिसरमा सिलोट ढुंगा पनि बिच्छ्याइएको देख्न सकिन्छ। मन्दिरभित्र सत्तल निर्माण गरि अफिस, भान्साकोठा, पुजारी कोठा, स्टोर कोठा, ट्वाइलेट, बाथरुम आदि बनाइएको छ।
पूजापर्वहरु
गौरीधाम शिव मन्दिर स्थापना भएसँगै प्रत्येक वर्षको असार १७ गतेका दिन पुजारीहरुबाट रुद्रीपाठ गरि श्रद्धालु भक्तजनहरुले भजनकृतन पुजापाठ तथा उपस्थित भक्तजनहरु माझ प्रसाद वितरण गरेर मन्दिरको वार्षिकोत्सव मनाउने गरिन्छ।
श्रावण महिना, शिवजीको प्रिय महिना हो। सनातन धर्मावलम्बी समाजमा श्रावण महिना धार्मिक कार्यहरू गर्नका लागि उत्तम महिना मानिन्छ। हरिशयनी एकादशीदेखि सुरु भई हरिबोधिनी एकादशीमा समाप्त हुने चतुर्मासको पहिलो महिना र शिवोपासनाको महिना भएकाले श्रावण महिनाको महत्व बढेको हो । पुराण र धर्मशास्त्रमा बताएजस्तै सबै नियमहरु पालना गर्न नसकिएतापनि कम्तीमा श्रावण महिनाभरि शुद्ध आहार गर्ने र सोमबार शिवजीको उपासना एवं व्रत गर्ने परम्परा रहेको छ।
कालीगण्डकी गङ्गास्नान गरी शिवजीलाई गङ्गाजल चढाउने, बेलपत्र, गाईको दुध, फुलपाती चढाई भव्य रुपमा गौरीधाम शिव मन्दिरमा पुजाआजा गरिन्छ। यसका साथै, यस बागलुङमा रहेका कावरिया संघका हजारौं भक्तजनहरुले श्रावण महिनाको एउटा सोमबारका दिन कालिगण्डकी देखि गौरिधाम शिव मन्दिर परिसरसम्म पैदल यात्रा गरी जल चढाउने कार्य गर्दछन्। बालाचर्तुदशीका दिन भक्तजनहरुद्वारा गंगास्नान गरि सदबीज छर्ने पनि गरिएको छ। त्यस्तै, महाशिवरात्रीका दिन विशेष पुजाआजा हुने गरेको छ। बागलुङ बजारदेखि सबैभन्दा नजिक पर्ने शिवमन्दिर भएर पनि होला, महा शिवरात्रीका दिन, यहाँ अन्य मन्दिरमा भन्दा भक्तजनहरु चाप निकै बढी हुने गरेको छ भने रातीको समयमा धुनी बालेर, अखण्ड भजन कृतन गरी रातभरी जागराम बसी महिला भक्तजनहरुले महाबत्ती बाली पुजा गर्ने गर्दछन्। गौरीधाम शिव मन्दिरमा विवाह लगन, ब्रतवन्ध लगन साथै विषेश दिनहरुमा विवाह, व्रतवन्ध लगायतका विभिन्न धार्मिक कार्य गर्ने गरिन्छ।
विश्वास
आफुले चाहेको वा आफ्नो मनोकामना पुरा हुने जनविश्वासले गर्दा पनि यस गौरीधामा शिव मन्दिरमा श्रद्धालु भत्तजनहरुको भिड लाग्ने गरेको छ। साथै, मन्दिर आवतजावत गर्नका लागि सहज वातावरण भएकाले पनि यो मन्दिरमा, जेष्ठ नागरिक, विद्यार्थी, बालबालिका, अग्रज व्यक्तित्वहरु साथै विभिन्न संघसंस्थाहरु उपस्थित रहने गरेका छन्।
