According to ancient scriptures and texts, Goddess Durga Bhagwati is described as the embodiment of power (Shakti) and invincibility (Aparajita). Devotees revere her by various names, such as “Sherawali Maa” and “Maa Durga.” Durga, who is attained through Ashtanga Yoga, Karma, and intense devotion, is also known as Jagadambika Durga. In the Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmya/Chandi Path), Goddess Durga is glorified with eleven different names. The story of her victory over the demon Mahishasura is considered a prime example of the triumph of truth and righteousness. The local residents hold deep faith and devotion toward Goddess Durga.
Daily Worship & Rituals
The Durga Bhagwati Temple follows rituals as per the Durga Saraswati Granth. The daily worship includes recitations from sacred texts, such as:
- Pratham Adhyaya (First Chapter)
- Chaturth Adhyaya (Fourth Chapter)
- Pancham Adhyaya (Fifth Chapter)
- Ekadeshi Adhyaya (Eleventh Chapter)
- Stotra Ratnavali (Collection of Hymns)
- Shiva Tandava Stotra
- Shiva Panchakshara Stotra
- Rudrashtakam
- Saraswati Bajika Stotra
- Kshama Prarthana (Forgiveness Prayer)
- Kala Bhairava Prarthana (Invocation of Lord Bhairav)
Aarti (divine prayer offering) is performed daily at the temple.
Festivals & Important Worship Ceremonies
The Durga Bhagwati Temple observes four major Navratri celebrations annually:
- Two grand Navratris occur in Ashoj (Autumn) and Chaitra (Spring).
- Two secretive Navratris (Gupta Navratri) take place in Asar (Monsoon) and Magh (Winter).
The Ashoj and Chaitra Navratris are celebrated on a grand scale with continuous nine-day rituals, prayers, and fire sacrifices (Havan). During Chaitra Navratri, recitations of the eighteen Puranas take place. In Magh and Asar, devotees engage in focused Durga Path (recitation of Durga scriptures), including special prayers for Goddess Saraswati and Lord Shiva during Shivaratri.
Additionally, special Vishhara (poison removal) rituals are conducted in the temple. Worship is performed at Durga’s throne (Asana), and on significant occasions, a temporary idol of Goddess Durga is made, worshiped, and then immersed in water.
Donations & Offerings
Devotees believe that wishes made with a pure heart at the temple are fulfilled. Many offer animal sacrifices to please the goddess, while others perform symbolic offerings such as:
- Offering Prasad (sacred food) in fulfillment of vows.
- Feeding the poor and needy.
- Donating clothes as an act of charity.
- Contributing towards temple development.
- Feeding young girls (Kumari Bhojan) to seek the goddess’s blessings.
Final Words
Over time, various temples dedicated to different deities have been established around Pipra village and Durga Bhagwati Municipality. Due to this spiritual enclosure of divine temples, it is believed that the region is protected from unexpected calamities and major obstacles. As per Sanatan Dharma (Hindu tradition), gods are seen as saviors and protectors, and it is believed that since the establishment of the Durga Bhagwati Temple, many hardships in the village have diminished.

नमस्कार! हजुरलाई दुर्गा भगवती मन्दिरमा स्वागत छ ।
पुरानो ग्रन्थ र पुस्तकहरुअनुसार दुर्गा भगवती मातालाई शक्ति र अपराजिताको अर्को नामले पनि व्याख्या गरिन्छ। धर्मावलम्बीहरूले “शेरावाली माँ” “माँ दुर्गा” आदि नामले पनि दुर्गा मातालाई पुकार्छन । दुर्गा – जो अष्टाङ्ग योग, कर्म एवं उपासना रूप दुःसाध्य साधनद्वारा प्राप्त हुन्छिन्, उनै जगदम्बिका ‘दुर्गा’ कहलाउँछिन् । दुर्गासप्तशती (देवीमहात्म्य/चण्डी पाठ) मा दुर्गामातालाई ११ विभिन्न नामले बन्दना गरिएको छ । महिषासुरको वध गरेर फेरि सुख, शान्ति र सम्वृद्धिको पुर्नस्थापना गर्नुभएकोले माताको गाथालाई सत्यको जहिले पनि विजय हुने प्रमाणको मुख्य उदाहरणको रुपमा लिइन्छ। यहाँका स्थानियबासीहरुको मनमा दुर्गामाता प्रति विशेष श्रद्धा र भक्तिको भावना रहेको छ ।
दैनिक पूजाआजा
दुर्गा भगवती मन्दिरमा दुर्गा सरस्वती नामक ग्रन्थद्वारा पूजा हुने गर्दछ। मन्दिरमा हुने पूजाको श्रोतहरु प्रथम अध्याय, चौथो आध्याय, पंचम अध्याय, एकादेशी अध्याय, अरु स्तोत्र रत्नावाली, शिव ताण्डव , शिव पंचाक्षर, रुद्रास्टक, सरस्वती बजिका स्तोत्र, क्षमा प्राथना, काल भैरव प्राथना आदिबाट पाठ गरिन्छ। दुर्गा मन्दिरमा हरेक दिन आरती पनि हुने गर्दछ।
मेला र महत्वपूर्ण पूजाविधिहरु
मुख्यतः दुर्गा भगवती मन्दिरमा मुख्य पूजाहरुलाई चार मुख्य नवरात्री मानेर पुजिन्छ । दुईवटा पूजा असोज र चैत्रमा हुन्छ भने बाँकी दुईवटा चाहिँ असारमा र माघ महिनामा गरिन्छ, जसलाई गुप्त नवरात्र पनि भनिन्छ। असोज र चैत्रको नवरात्रलाई भब्य रुपले मानिन्छ। चैत्रमा अठार वटा पुराणको पाठ हुन्छ जसमा असोज जस्तै नौ दिन सम्म पूजा र हवन गरेर मनाइन्छ। माघमा र असारमा एकाग्रित दुर्गा पाठ हुन्छ जसमा सरस्वती र शिवरात्रिको दिन विशेस पूजा हुन्छ। त्यसबाहेक, विशेष विषहराको पूजा पनि यो मन्दिरमा गरिन्छ। यो मन्दिरमा दुर्गाको आसनमा पूजा हुन्छ भने विशेष उपलक्ष्यमा देवीको मुर्ति बनाएर पूजा सकिएपछि विशर्जन गरिन्छ।
दान र पूजा
यहाँ आउने दर्शनार्थीहरुले शुद्ध मनले मागेको मनकामना पुर्ति हुने विश्वास गरिन्छ। धेरै जनाले माताको नाममा बलि दिएर प्रसन्न बनाएपनि साधारण रुपमा भाकल र प्रतिज्ञाको लागि प्रसाद चढाउने, गरिबलाई खाना खुवाउने लुगा दिने र यहाँ मन्दिरको विकासको लागि दान दिने र कुमारीलाई खाना खुवाएर पनि मातालाई प्रसन्न बनाउने गरिन्छ।
अन्त्यमा
कालान्तरमा, पिपरा गाउँ र दुर्गाभगवती गाउँपालिका क्षेत्र वरिपरी नै विभिन्न देवीदेवताहरुको मन्दिरहरुको स्थापना भयो। यसरी यो पुरै क्षेत्र नै देवी देवताहरुको मन्दिरले घेरिएकोले, कुनै आकस्मिक वा ठूलो विघ्नबाधाहरुबाट सुरक्षित रहेको विश्वास गरिन्छ। जसरी हाम्रो संस्कृति र धर्मअनुसार भगवानलाई दुखहरता र पालनहारता भन्ने गरिन्छ, त्यसरी नै दुर्गा भगवतीको स्थापना पछि यो गाउँमा त्यस्ता धेरै बिघ्न बाधाहरुको नष्ट भएको विश्वास गरिन्छ।
